With the aim of looking for locations for a session we would do the following week with Oli, Auri and I went to the area of the lake of Banyoles, a small village in the province of Girona famous for having a very beautiful lake right next to it, and which has numerous fields of crops nearby.

The idea was to look for different locations and find some fields of rapeseed, which is a yellow flower that is in bloom at this time of year, and then in the afternoon, when the sun’s orientation was more favourable, to look for areas in the lake to be able to take very different photos on the same day.

So, we planned a one-day trip, got up early, and went looking for canola fields until we found one that met the requirements, because most of them were either flat or at the wrong angle to the sun. That is, the ideal is to find a field where you have the sun behind you, in an orientation that allows you to light the model with natural light and not backlit, and that has a slight slope so that you can see a lot of the field out of focus behind the model. If you choose a very flat or sloping field what you get is a small strip of field, a lot of sky and little else and that doesn’t look good in a photograph in which you want the field and its flowers to stand out so that they serve as a background and the model stands out.

After a lot of walking around we found a suitable field with a good sun orientation for the morning where we could do the first tests and take advantage of the perfect day with a splendid sun to take some microstock photos.
We didn’t have to take too many photos, as the aim was to do the session the following week with Olivia, but we did want to make sure that we had something done in case it was cloudy or raining the day we came with Olivia.
The morning was really productive and not only did we find the right field, but we managed to take quite a few photos and videos.

Once we finished the rural part, we went to eat at a restaurant in the area.

After lunch, we headed towards Banyoles and once there, we parked the van in the car park and realised that we had to walk for a while, which limited the amount of equipment we could carry. We therefore started by doing a quick reconnaissance of the area on foot, with a couple of hand-held cameras, to see where it was most suitable to do or plan the shoot.

Once we had found the right areas we went back to the van to get the equipment we needed to record making off shots and to do some test photography for the following week’s shoot.

At one of the small jetties at the reservoir level, it was really beautiful surroundings and also the light towards the sunset.

As soon as we arrived we were surprised by a family of ducklings that we couldn’t help photographing and videotaping because they were and his chicks were also there.

We planned the session well and made sure we found the perfect orientation for the sun for each of the hours we would be there.
After shooting everything we had planned, and planning the next week’s session, we packed up and headed home.

Next week you will be able to see the video of the session with Olivia that took place the following week in the same area and in this video you can already see some of the photographs that were taken in Oli’s session, but that were planned for this day.

Once again a productive day in an environment that makes you forget you are working.

We hope you like the video.
